Response of Trunk Sap Flow Characteristics of Larix principis-rupprechtii to Environmental Changes and Its Time Scale Differences

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the trunk sap flow rate characteristics of Larix principis-ruppre-chtii and its relationship with changes in environmental factors at different time scales.The trunk sap flow rates of Larix principis-rupprechtii plantation forests were continuously monitored using the TDP tech-nique with simultaneous monitoring of meteorological and soil volumetric water content in the Liupan Mountains region of Ningxia in the 2019 growing season(May—October).To analyze the relationship be-tween trunk sap flow rate and environmental factors at different time scales,and to develop structural equation modeling(SEM)on a daily scale to determine the combined effects of multiple factors on trunk sap flow.The results showed that 1)On an hourly scale,air temperature(Ta),relative humidity(RH),solar radiation(R,),and vapor pressure deficit(VPD)were significantly(P<0.01)correlated with trunk sap flow rate(J,)under sunny conditions,with correlation coefficients of 0.83,—0.75,0.89,and 0.78,re-spectively.When the multiple regression analysis was conducted,the above factors entered the multiple re-gression equation at the same time,and the standardized partial regression coefficients were 2.959,1.049,0.862 and-1.847 in that order.Under rainy conditions,Ta,RH and VPD were significantly correlated(P<0.01)with J.,with correlation coefficients of 0.57,—0.64 and 0.67,respectively.Only VPD entered the multiple regression equation.2)On the daily scale,RH,R,,VPD and precipitation(P)were signifi-cantly(P<0.01)correlated with Js with correlation coefficients of-0.75,0.87,0.90 and-0.45.Rs,VPD,and SWC entered the multiple regression equation within the early growing season(May-June),and the standardized partial regression coefficients were 0.269,0.602 and-0.119 in that order;Only Rs en-tered the multiple regression equation within the middle of the growing season(July-August);R,and VPD entered the multiple regression equation within the late growing season(September—October),and the standardized partial regression coefficients were 0.391 and 0.657;R,and VPD entered the multiple re-gression equation throughout the growing season(May—October),and the standardized partial regression coefficients were 7.19 and 7.49.3)On the monthly scale,Rs,VPD and SWC were significantly correlated with Js(P<0.01),with correlation coefficients of 0.98,0.97 and 0.99,respectively,but only SWC entered the multiple regression equation.4)SEM was constructed for the relationship between trunk sap flow and environmental factors at the daily scale,indicating that the path coefficients of RH,R,,VPD,and SWC on Js were-0.05,0.40,0.53,and-0.01,respectively.Based on the results of SEM analysis.Rs and VPD are the most direct environmental factors affecting J.,and the rest of the environmental factors can only indi-rectly affect Js.The response of Larix principis-rupprechtii sap flow to environmental factors varies at different temporal scales.关键词
