Abstract

The operating environment of modern power systems is complex,and the power and communication equipment are susceptible to electromagnetic interference and damage.ZnO varistors,renowned for their superior nonlinear current-voltage(I-V)characteristics,are extensively employed to protect sensitive electronic devices.The electrical properties of ZnO varistors determined by grain boundary characteristics and microstructure govern their efficacy in suppressing electromagnetic pulse(EMP)interference.To enhance the suppression effect of ZnO varistors on electromagnetic interference,this paper employs a Voronoi network model to simulate the microstructure of ZnO varistors,establishing a grain boundary partition model and a micro equivalent circuit that accounts for intergranular current shunting effect,obtaining the equivalent circuit of the varistor as a whole.Based on the model,this paper investigates the effect of the proportion of thick grain boundary phase,impedance of the thick grain boundary phase,and the proportion of direct contact areas on the macroscopic electrical performance of ZnO varistors.The results show that reducing the proportion of the thick grain boundary phase and increasing its impedance can enhance the performance of the varistors.In contrast,an increase in the proportion of direct contact areas has a negligible impact on electrical performance initially,but when it reaches 10-6,several electrical performance of ZnO varistor deteriorate significanty.This paper provides theoretical support for the application of varistors in the field of electromagnetic interference suppression.
