Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of intermittent oro-esophageal tube feeding(IOE)in preventing aspiration pneu-monia in elderly patients with stroke-related dysphagia.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the medical records of 90 elderly patients with stroke dysphagia from January 2023 to June 2024.Patients were grouped according to treatment methods:the continuous nasal feeding group received continuous nasogastric feeding,while the combined group received IOE.The incidence of aspiration pneumonia and the improvement of swallowing function were compared between the two groups after four weeks of treat-ment.Results The incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the combined group was 8.89％(4/45),significantly lower than 26.67％(12/45)in the continuous nasal feeding group(P＜0.05).The combined group showed significantly lower scores in the water drinking test(1.29±0.15)and swallowing function assessment(22.22±2.51)compared with the continuous nasal feeding group(P＜0.05).Serum nutritional indices in the combined group,including total protein[(77.37±6.24)g/L],albumin[(38.34±3.34)g/L],and hemoglobin[(114.21±2.24)g/L],were significantly better than those in the continuous nasal feeding group(P＜0.05).Scores for physical function(82.01±4.39),mental health(83.11±6.32),social function(83.22±2.49),and emotional function(78.25±5.02)in the combined group were significantly higher than those in the continuous nasal feeding group(P＜0.05).The incidence of other adverse reactions in the combined group was 4.44％(2/45),significantly lower than 17.77％(8/45)in the continuous nasal feeding group(P＜0.05).Conclusion IOE can significantly improve swallowing function and nu-tritional status,prevent aspiration pneumonia,and enhance the quality of life in elderly patients with stroke dysphagia.关键词
