Abstract

To ensure the safe operation of the Earth-fill Dam,the deformation monitoring data from the South Shiluotuo auxiliary dam of Miyun Reservoir operating over 64 years were analyzed by adopting methods such as process line analysis,correlation analysis,high reservoir water level influence analysis,deformation distribution law analysis and hypothesis analysis.The results showed that the auxiliary dam was generally safe in terms of the overall deformation;however,there were potential safety risks in terms of cracking and seismic stability in the sand and gravel materials of the thick inclined wall dam from 0+300 to 0+370 m section.The maximum settlement rate has reached 2.11%,moreover,the relative density was lower than the 0.75 requirement according to the current Design Codes and Standards.Inherent defects and differences in filling speed during the construction period were the main causes.The analysis results were conducive to discovering engineering defects and taking effective engineering measures to ensure the safe operation of the project.Meanwhile,this research result provided reference significance for the study of the deformation of various soil dams.
