Abstract

This study analyzes the spatiotemporal evolution and driving factors of groundwater levels in the Beijing Plain from 2011 to 2023 using groundwater monitoring data and spatiotemporal analysis methods.Results reveal significant rising trends across all four aquifer groups temporally.Between 2011 and 2023,levels transitioned from declining or slightly increasing to markedly increasing.Spatially,within the groundwater systems,the magnitude of water-level increase generally amplified from downstream towards the middle and upper reaches.The groundwater systems located near the mountain front consistently exhibited the largest increase.Vertically,the trend shifted from decreasing amplitudes at shallower depths to increasing amplitudes with greater depths.These pronounced changes resulted from the combined influence of natural factors(primarily atmospheric precipitation and hydrogeological conditions)and anthropogenic factors(notably groundwater extraction control,water conservation initiatives,and water-saving measures).Among them,the anthropogenic factors played the dominant and most critical role.The findings provide a scientific basis and decision-making support for sustainable groundwater resource management and utilization in the region.
