Abstract

This study investigates the hydrochemical characteristics and formation mechanisms of groundwater in Chaoyang District,Beijing,utilizing hydrochemical data from 70 groundwater samples.Comprehensive analysis employing Piper trilinear diagrams,Gibbs diagrams,and ion ratios reveals the following key findings:1)Groundwater hydrochemistry is predominantly characterized as HCO3-Ca type,with some samples in the first aquifer being Cl·SO4-Ca·Mg type,and a small amount of HCO3-Na·Ca type water in the third and fourth aquifers,indicating a trend of cation evolution from Ca²+dominance towards Na+with increasing depth;2)Rock weathering constitutes the primary control on groundwater chemistry,with minor influences from evaporation and atmospheric precipitation,and some local areas affected by human activities;3)Positive cation exchange is prevalent throughout the study area and intensifies with aquifer depth;4)Nitrate in groundwater mainly originates from urban domestic sewage and industrial wastewater,with secondary contributions from soil organic nitrogen and fecal inputs.The research findings provide a scientific basis for the protection and management of groundwater resources in Chaoyang District.
