Optimization study on network design and capacity scheduling in high-speed rail integrated multimodal transportation system

Abstract
With the 14th Five-Year Plan promoting railway express development and green low-carbon transformation,the high-speed rail,with its advantages of large capacity,high speed,and low carbon emissions,shows enormous potential in modern logistics systems,making the study of multimodal transportation network optimization with high-speed rail integration highly significant.However,research on the joint optimization of hub network design and capacity scheduling with HSR integration remains insufficient.Therefore,this study explored the joint optimization of temporary hub location,demand allocation,and capacity scheduling with HSR participation by considering factors such as multimodal transport spatiotemporal connections,carbon emission differences between transport modes,and hub utilization costs.A model was constructed with the objective of minimizing the sum of hub utilization costs,transportation costs,transshipment costs,and carbon emission costs.It was solved using an L-SHADE algorithm based on the Frank-Wolfe algorithm and a Slope Scaling strategy.Numerical experiments were conducted on a comprehensive transportation network dataset of 200 major Chinese cities to analyze the participation levels of different transport modes and their impact on network structure under various network scales.The results show that:1)the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms Gurobi,obtaining better solutions within 115 seconds for small-scale instances and converging within half an hour for large-scale instances;2)in urban clusters with high daily business volume,the optimal solution primarily relies on air transportation to build a rapid trunk transport systems due to high aviation coverage;and 3)in network optimization at larger city scales,the extensive coverage advantage of the HSR network is fully utilized,with optimal solutions mainly depending on HSR transportation to construct rapid trunk transport systems.The research findings not only provide reference for multimodal transport network design and HSR express service route development but also offer theoretical support for implementing national policies to promote railway express development and build a green and efficient modern comprehensive transportation system.关键词
