Abstract

This study aimed to further improve the cost-effectiveness of the current scheduled maintenance strategy for high-speed train wheelsets and to address the differentiated degradation rates observed during the wheel degradation process and the issue of over-inspection within traditional condition-based maintenance(CBM)strategies that use periodic inspections.The non-periodic inspection condition-based maintenance strategy based on the Wiener process was proposed.This strategy described the phased degradation characteristics of wheels using a two-stage Wiener process and established a non-periodic inspection approach that combines periodic inspections with geometrically decreasing inspection intervals.In the first stage of degradation,where the wheels degrade slowly,periodic inspections were applied.In the second stage,as the degradation rate accelerated,inspection intervals shortened according to a geometric decrement rule,and the optimal maintenance points were precisely identified.A CBM decision model was developed based on renewal reward theory,aiming to minimize the average cost rate per renewal cycle by optimizing both the initial inspection interval and the interval reduction factor.The Monte Carlo algorithm was employed for simulation and solution.The results indicate that this strategy promptly responds to changes in the degradation rate as the wheels transition to the second stage,allowing for preventive maintenance before reaching the failure threshold,thereby reducing the frequency of corrective maintenance.Compared with condition-based maintenance strategies with different inspection interval shortening methods,the proposed approach incurs slight increases in inspection and preventive maintenance costs but significantly reduces breakdown maintenance costs,effectively lowering the expected cost per unit time.The research results have a certain reference value for exploring the cost reduction and efficiency increase in high-speed train wheelset maintenance system.
