Comparison of Water-Holding Capacity of Litter Layers between Evergreen Broad-Leaved Forests and Plantations in Ailao Mountain

Abstract
The water-holding capacity of litter layers varies among different forest vegetation types.To investigate the differences in water retention and water conservation ability between natural forests and plantations,a five-point sampling method was employed to study the litter standing crop,water-holding rate,water absorption rate,maximum water-holding capacity,and effective intercep-tion of litter layers in evergreen broad-leaved forest,Pinus armandii(P.armandii)forest,and Al-nus nepalensis(A.nepalensis)forest of the Ailao Mountain.The results showed that:(1)The litter standing crop(7.78 t·hm-2),maximum water-holding capacity(22.02 t·hm-2),and effective interception(16.00 t·hm-2)of the evergreen broad-leaved forest were significantly higher than those of the P.armandii forest and A.nepalensis forest(P<0.01),with the A.nepalensis forest be-ing the lowest.(2)The water-holding rate of the litter followed the order:evergreen broad-leaved forest>A.nepalensis forest>P.armandii forest.With increasing immersion time,the water absorp-tion rate of all litter types declined rapidly,but the semi-decomposed layer consistently exhibited higher water-holding rate and water absorption rate than the undecomposed layer.Compared with plantation forests,natural forests demonstrated stronger water conservation ability.These findings provide a reference for forest vegetation restoration in the Ailao Mountain.关键词
