The Self-Refutation Dilemma of Ideological Criticism and Marx's Solution of Immanent Critique Based on Historical Materialism

Abstract
The self-refutation dilemma of ideological critique refers to a predicament encountered in contemporary theoreti-cal circles when dealing with the non-symmetrical relationship between the universal validity of ideological critique and the sociohistorical nature of critical standards.It essentially manifests as a"self-refutation"in the legitimacy of the standards of ideological critique itself.After being explored by Eagleton and Mannheim,this dilemma in contemporary ideological cri-tique theory has not only revealed the flaws of external reflection models in critical logic but also been attributed by re-searchers to Marxism itself.In contrast,Marxism,drawing on Hegel's method of immanent criticism,posits that the"im-manent critique"practiced in its historical materialist theory of ideological critique offers a scientific approach.This ap-proach overcomes the self-contradictory dilemma of ideological critique by avoiding the legitimacy issues of external reflec-tion.It achieves"internal transcendence"of contemporary capitalist society in the form of generated internal norms,while maintaining the transcendence or transformative nature required by ideological critique.关键词
