The Impact of the Digital Economy on the Operating Income of Characteristic Forest Products

Abstract
⑴ Background——As a vital foundational industry of the national economy,forestry is an eco-industry with immense potential,which plays a critical role in national ecological civilization construction and the supply of forest products,while also serving a crucial function in safeguarding national ecological security.The digital e-conomy represented by e-commerce can enhance the efficiency of forestry production and the quality of forest products through technological innovation and progress.Characteristic forest products are the main source of in-come for the rural households in mountainous regions.Existing research mostly focuses on exploring how the digit-al economy empowers the high-quality development of forestry,but the studies on its impact on the operating in-come remain relatively scarce. ⑵Methods——Based on the theoretical analysis,this paper first proposed the research hypotheses.Subse-quently,it empirically examined the impact effects of the digital economy on the operating income of characteris-tic forest products using the Endogenous Switching Regression(ESR)model.Furthermore,it explored the im-pact mechanisms by employing Quantile Regression and Mediation Pathways analysis.The research data mainly came from a questionnaire survey conducted by the research team among the tea operators in six prefecture-level cities in Fujian Province from April to July 2023,with a total of 624 valid questionnaires obtained. ⑶ Results——First,the participation of the tea operators in e-commerce could significantly increase their operating income.In addition,factors such as the tea operators'age,education level,business scale,govern-ment financial support,original value of productive fixed assets,years of operation,and agricultural insurance had a significant positive impact on their operating income.Second,through the analysis of the impact mecha-nism of the digital economy on the operating income of characteristic forest products,the sales price impact mechanism,the production cost impact mechanism and the transaction cost impact mechanism were verified.The results showed that the tea operators engaged in e-commerce increased their operating income by raising the sales price of tea,reducing the production costs and transaction costs. ⑷ Conclusions and Discussions——Based on the above research conclusions,the following policy sug-gestions are proposed:First,increase financial support for the digital economy.Promote the application of digital technologies in forest product operations and enhance policy support and integrated allocation of poverty allevia-tion funds.Accelerate the construction of forestry information infrastructure and the popularization of broadband to create a favorable environment for the development of e-commerce.Second,vigorously introduce and expand the application scope and development space of new production tools such as artificial intelligence and big data.A-dopt a personalized customization and data-driven management model,so as to enable the operators engaged in characteristic forest products to efficiently allocate production resources and improve the industrial value chain for characteristic forest products.Third,enhance the cultivation of application-oriented talents in the digital economy to improve the digital literacy of forest products operators.Establish a digital talent development system to provide specialized training on digital economy applications for the operators of characteristic forest products,and estab-lish public service centers for characteristic forest products.关键词
