Effect of Stand Density on Carbon Storage in Phyllostachys edulis Forest Ecosystem

Abstract
The moso bamboo forest ecosystem of three different forest densities(2 600-2 800,3 800-4 100 and 5 900-6 400 stems/ha)in Dagang mountain,Jiangxi province,are selected to study the effects of stand density on carbon storage and its allocation patterns in moso bamboo forest.The results demonstrate that:1)The total ecosystem carbon storage across the three densities ranges from 67.86 to 116.67 t/ha.Aboveground biomass carbon storage,belowground biomass carbon storage,total biomass carbon storage,and total ecosystem carbon storage differs significantly(P<0.05)among densities,exhibiting significant increases with rising stand density;2)Soil carbon storage does not differ significantly(P>0.05)among densities but displays an overall unimodal trend,reaching its maximum(75.84 t/ha)under the medium-density stand(3 800-4 100 stems/ha).Furthermore,the proportional contribution of soil carbon storage to total ecosystem carbon storage increases significantly with increasing density;and 3)Carbon storage in aboveground biomass,belowground biomass,total biomass,and soil all show significant positive correlations(P<0.05)with total ecosystem carbon storage(R=0.71,0.75,0.72,and 0.80,respectively).However,soil carbon storage is not significantly correlated(P>0.05)with aboveground,belowground,or total biomass carbon storage.The research results demonstrate that an appropriate increase in stand density is beneficial for enhancing carbon storage in moso bamboo forest ecosystems.关键词
