Abstract

To explore the oviposition preference of Monochamus alternatus on Pinus massoniana branch and trunk,the oviposition behavior of M.alternatus on different diameters,numbers and weight loss rates of P.massoniana branch sections were compared.The results showed that the number of oviposition pits and eggs of M.alternatus on P.massoniana branch sections with 3 cm or 4 cm diameter were significantly higher than those with 2 cm diameter.The cumulative number of oviposition pits of M.alternatus on P.massoniana in feeding box with three branch sections was significantly higher than that with only one branch section after feeding for seven days.The number of oviposition pits of M.alternatus on P.massoniana branch sections showed an increasing trend with the increase of the weight loss rate of the branch sections.Under the condition of simultaneous supply of branch sections with different weight loss rates,the number of oviposition pits on the branch sections with a weight loss rate of 61.0%was significantly higher than that of the branch sections with a weight loss rate of 7.3%-45.4%.In the artificial feeding condition,M.alternatus preferred to carve groove or oviposit on the branch sections of P.massoniana with a diameter of 3 cm and a weight loss rate of 61.0%.Adding more branch sections to the feeding box was also beneficial to carve groove.The results can provide a basis for improving artificial feeding technology of M.alternatus.
