Abstract

Pre-earthquake rainfall increases the probability and severity of slope instability.Therefore,studying the effects of rainfall on the seismic response of the slope is of great significance.Taking the composite retaining slope at Dehua Station in Quanzhou City as a case study,a typical cross-section with heterogeneous stratigraphy was selected for large-scale shaking table tests under two working conditions:rainfall and non-rainfall.By comparing and analyzing the natural vibration frequency,spectral characteristics,acceleration response and Arias intensity of the anchor piles between the two slopes,the study explored the influence of rainfall on the seismic response characteristics of heterogeneous slope bodies and their retaining structures.The results showed that,under the same seismic loads,the natural vibration frequency of the rainfall slope decreased more than that of the non-rainfall slope and entered the nonlinear decline phase earlier.As seismic waves propagate upward through the heterogeneous slope,the Fourier spectrum curve changed significantly,and a double-peak frequency band phenomenon appeared at the top of the slope.Compared with the non-rainfall slope,the high-frequency dominant band at the top of the rainfall slope showed a marked shift toward lower frequencies as seismic intensity increased.At high seismic intensities,a frequency-band coupling effect occurred,leading to a sharp increase in the dynamic response at the slope top.The distribution patterns of acceleration amplification coefficients for both the non-rainfall and rainfall slopes were relatively similar,both exhibiting clear slope surface and elevation effects.Rainfall significantly enhanced the acceleration amplification effect at the slope surface,while the increase in seismic amplitude both promoted the rainfall amplification effect and suppressed the acceleration response of the slope.Rainfall mainly affected the seismic response of the slope's surface layer.Therefore,in high-intensity seismic areas with abundant rainfall,protective measures should be reinforced,particularly at the slope top.
