Abstract

The box-type subgrade structure is an internally hollow reinforced concrete box composed of a top slab,bottom slab,and two webs,and is particularly suitable for railway construction in areas with high fills and slope restrictions.To analyze the static behavior of this structure under railway loads,the structure was decomposed into an upper structure formed by the top slab and webs,and a lower structure consisting of the bottom slab.The upper structure was simplified as a third-order statically indeterminate planar rigid frame and was solved using the displacement method with rotational displacement equations in structural mechanics.The lower structure was modeled as a finite-length beam on a Winkler elastic foundation.This method accounted for the displacement continuity at the connection joints between the webs and the bottom slab,and enabled the analysis of the effects of differential foundation settlement on the upper structure.The analysis also considered the influence of single-line and double-line railway loads.Based on the analysis of the newly constructed Quzhou-Lishui railway box-type subgrade,it was shown that the proposed theoretical method produced internal forces and deformations in good agreement with numerical simulation results.The theoretical internal force values were approximately 10%higher than those obtained from FLAC3D simulations.A 10 mm differential settlement in the foundation caused the additional bending moment and shear force in the upper structure to be 0.71 and 0.19 times,respectively,of those under no differential settlement.Under both single-line and double-line railway loads,the maximum bending moments occurred either at the bottom slab near the base of the webs or at the mid-span of the bottom slab,while the maximum shear forces were concentrated at the bottom slab near the base of the webs.To optimize structural performance and economic efficiency,the recommended values for the top slab thickness,web thickness,and bottom slab overhang ratio are 0.6 m,0.55 m,and 40%,respectively.
