Construction procedures for ultra-large twin foundation pits in metro stations

Abstract
The Shenzhen Dayun Transportation Hub project includes both the main station foundation pit and the transportation core foundation pit,which are closely adjacent and excavated simultaneously.This configuration poses significant construction challenges and high safety risks.To clarify the impact of the open-cut(top-down sequential excavation)and the cover-cut(bottom-up reverse excavation)methods on foundation pit safety,four combined construction procedures were simulated using the finite element method.The analysis focused on changes in the horizontal deformation of retaining structures,vertical deformation of slabs and surrounding ground settlement.The results indicate that the procedure of"station pit by reverse excavation and transportation core pit by reverse excavation"yielded the smallest deformations retaining structures,ground settlement,vertical displacement of the middle and bottom slabs,whereas the"station pit by sequential excavation and transportation core pit by sequential excavation"procedure resulted in the largest deformations.Based on the principles of minimizing structural deformation,the recommended optimal procedure for this type of project is to adopt sequential excavation for the larger foundation pit adjacent to the viaduct and reverse excavation for the smaller foundation pit far away from the viaduct.These findings provide theoretical support for improving the safety of similar large-scale underground construction projects.关键词
