Skepticism towards Classics and Literary Writing in Northern Song Poems on Reading Classics:Focusing on Spring and Autumn Annals and Mencius

Abstract
The trend of skepticism towards classics in the Northern Song Dynasty injected new vitality into poetic creation.Poems on reading classics either questioned the views of Han and Tang exegetical annotations or expounded academic opinions different from those of Han and Tang annotations,changing the writing method of paraphrasing classic texts into poetry since the Tang Dynasty.Under the political ethics of respecting the monarch and advocating loyalty in the Song Dynasty,scholars like Ouyang Xiu and Han Qi frequently questioned the studies of Spring and Autumn Annals in the Han and Tang dynasties,advocating abandoning commentaries to seek the essence of classics and specializing in interpreting classic meanings.In poems on reading Mencius,the trends of"revering Mencius"and"doubting Mencius"confronted each other,and the poems mostly questioned the events recorded in Mencius.The choice of poetic forms for poems on reading classics was influenced by the depth and breadth of classical studies issues,as well as the poets'own classical literacy.In terms of literary expression,poems on reading classics embedded praise and criticism in argumentation,paraphrased classical exegetical articles,borrowed ancient prose techniques,and integrated prose elements into poetry.关键词
