Abstract

The root system is the foundation for plant growth and development.With the gradual de-velopment of mechanization in ramie(Boehmeria niveal L.)cultivation,the use of mechanical cultivation often results in the removal or damage of radish roots,which has an impact on ramie.However,whether this impact is beneficial or harmful,and whether the removal or damage of ramie radish roots affects the biological yield of ramie,are scientific questions that remain to be addressed.To investigate the effect of radish roots on the growth and development of ramie,two groups removing radish roots(control group,CK)and retaining radish roots(treatment group,T1)were set in this study.The growth indicators of ramie,such as plant height,ramet number,stem diameter,and biomass,were investigated continuously for 5 years under field conditions,and the differences in these indicators between CK and T1 were com-pared and analyzed.The results showed that radish roots had little effect on the stem thickness of ramie,but significantly affected the plant height,ramet number,and biomass accumulation of ramie.Comparing with the control group,the treatment group had 2%-8%higher in plant height,11%-23%higher in ramet number,and 18.9%-25.5%higher in biomass.To ensure stable and high yield of ramie,it is rec-ommended to select suitable machinery when using mechanized cultivation,and to avoid cutting or dama-ging the roots of radishes during cultivation operations.
