Control and Reflections on Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome in a Newly Established Multi-Source Breeding Pig Farm

Abstract
A large-scale pig farm in Anhui Province continuously introduced older replacement pigs from six different breeding farms.After group mixing and rearing,the pig herd exhibited a suspected outbreak characterized by coughing,reduced feed intake,increased rates of stillbirths,mummified fetuses,and weak-born piglets in farrowing sows,along with decreased piglet survival and elevated mortality post-weaning.Laboratory diagnosis confirmed the infection of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(PRRSV).To control the outbreak swiftly,the farm established a special task force and implemented a comprehensive prevention and control plan encompassing production,nutrition,and veterinary aspects.Regular review meetings were held to monitor and optimize the execution of control measures.Ultimately,laboratory monitoring and production performance data demonstrated effective containment of the outbreak,with significant reductions in sow abortion rates and piglet mortality rates,and improvements in farrowing rate,litter size,and average weaning weight.This case offers valuable experience in the collaborative,multidisciplinary management of PRRSV outbreaks and provides a practical reference for on-site disease control and herd health management in large-scale pig farms.关键词
