A Word on the Lexicographical Definition of"Jiewen"in The Modern Chinese Dictionary

Abstract
On the basis of summarizing the lexicographical definitions of"jiewen"(借问)and"qingwen"(请问)in The Modern Chinese Dictionary,and by analyzing historical linguistic corpora,this paper argues that the term"jiewen"first emerged during the Han-Wei transition and fell completely out of use by the Republican China era.Thus,it is not a vocabulary item of the Northern Chinese dialects in modern Chinese.Accordingly,this paper suggests that The Modern Chinese Dictionary revise and improve the lexicographical definition of"jiewen".关键词
