The Licensing Path and Interface Interpretation of Elliptical Structures
摘要
Abstract
The derivation and licensing of ellipsis have been a focal topic in the study of formal grammar.By surveying the relevant literature,this paper reveals that the explanations for the derivation and licensing of elliptical structures face insurmountable bottlenecks whether relying on syntactic or semantic approaches alone.This is attributed to the unique characteristics of elliptical structures:beyond syntactic factors,they also involve interactions across multiple dimensions,including semantics,pragmatics,and prosody.Only by situating the licensing of ellipsis within the interface of syntax,semantics,and pragmatics can a unified explanation be obtained.关键词
