A Method for Measuring High-speed Small-fragments Based on Phased Array Radar Configuration

Abstract
Accurate velocity measurement of small fragments fired by artillery is of great significance in range tests.The traditional contact tin-foil target speed-measurement-equipment is complicated especially since the target paper needs to be replaced every time when the speed of small fragments is measured again,which makes the test efficiency low.The non-contact high-speed photographic speed-measurement-equipment is susceptible to the interference of flame and smoke at the launching port,which affects the judgement of the broken film position and reduces the accuracy of speed measurement.In view of the problems of the current non-contact high-speed photographic speed-measurement-equipment,this paper proposes a high-speed small-fragments speed-measurement-method based on phased-array radar configuration,with its system architecture and speed measurement principle illustrated.Due to the small cross-sectional area(<3 cm2)of the small fragments target,the radar echo power is increased by switching the beam pointing of the high-gain phased array antenna to cover different field-of-view areas at the same time.The presented method uses Doppler shift to extract the radial velocity information of the fragmentation target,and adjusts the beam pointing of the phased array antenna to track the real-time position information of the fragmentation,so as to find out the velocity along the rifling line of the miniature fragmentation target.Compared with the traditional non-contact high-speed photographic fragmentation speed-measurement-equipment,the phased array radar is not only able to complete accurate fragmentation speed measurement,but also its working frequency band is far away from the visible light band,such that the detection performance will not be affected by the flame,smoke,darkness and other poor lighting scenarios.关键词
