Synergistic Inhibitory Effect of Kaempferol on Ceftriaxone-resistant Escherichia coli

Abstract
To investigate the effects of kaempferol with ceftriaxone on ceftriaxone-resistant Escherichia co-li,six strains of clinically isolated ceftriaxone-resistant E.coli were utilized.The synergistic bacteriostatic effect of kaempferol with these resistant strains was examined.Results indicated that the combination of kaempferol and ceftriaxone exhibited synergistic effects against ceftriaxone-resistant E.coli(FICI<0.5).This combination effectively inhibited the growth of the resistant bacteria,and continuous treatment with kaempferol led to a reduction in resistance development among these strains.Furthermore,treatment with kaempferol alongside ceftriaxone significantly enhanced membrane permeability and compromised mem-brane integrity(P<0.01),resulting in varying degrees of damage to both the cell membrane and wall,as well as leakage of cellular contents.These findings suggested that the co-administration of kaempferol and ceftriaxone exerted the synergistic bacteriostatic effect by impairing cell membrane permeability and integ-rity in ceftriaxone-resistant E.coli.关键词
