Mineralogical Characteristics of Primary Uranium Ores in the Gangshangmajia Area of the Huangmeijian Rock Mass,Anhui Province and Their Geological Significance

Abstract
The Gangshangmajia area of the Huangmeijian rock mass is adjacent to the western side of the Xucun uranium deposit and represents one of the most promising areas for uranium prospecting along the northern margin of the Huangmeijian rock mass.Further exploration is expected to delineate a potential uranium deposit.The ore bodies are primarily hosted near the contact zone between the rock mass and sandstone,and the deposit is classified as a hydrothermal uranium deposit related to alkaline rocks.To investigate the mineralogical characteristics of primary uranium ores in the Gangshangmajia area,this study employed optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)with semi-quantitative energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and electron probe microanalysis(EPMA)to analyze the ore mineralogy,chemical composition,and elemental distribution.The results indicate that uranium minerals primarily occur as vein-like or massive pitchblende with relatively homogeneous composition,often associated with medium-to low-temperature hydrothermal minerals such as pyrite,apatite,calcite,and dolomite.Multiple uranium mineral assemblages were identified,including uranium minerals-pyrite-apatite-calcite type,uranium minerals-hematite-quartz vein type,uranium minerals-chlorite-pyrite type,uranium minerals-rutile-pyrite type.Comprehensive analysis indicates that the Huangmeijian rock mass in the area and the primary uranium minerals are both enriched in rare earth elements,indicating a genetic connection between them.Moreover,the rock mass exhibits high Th/U ratios and uranium activation and migration,all of which suggest a close relationship between the rock mass and uranium mineralization,making it one of the significant uranium sources.The Gangshangmajia area,situated between the Dingjiashan and Xucun deposits,shares similar metallogenic geological conditions and possesses an advantageous coupling relationship of structure-lithology-contact zone,which is one of the most promising exploration areas on the northern edge of the Huangmeijian rock mass.关键词
