Abstract

"Water-in-salt"electrolyte can achieve a wide electrochemical stability window in aqueous solutions by suppressing the activity of water.As metal salt electrolyte in aqueous batteries has a certain impact on environment,this work proposed a"wa-ter-in-salt"electrolyte based on tetradecyl salt surfactant.The conductivity and electrochemical stability window of tetradecyltri-methylammonium chloride(TTAC)and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide(TTAB)at different concentrations were explored.Raman spectroscopy characterization and cyclic voltammetry(CV)tests on 1.83 mol/kg TTAC and 2.38 mol/kg TTAB were car-ried out as well.The results showed that the electrochemical stability window of 1.83 mol/kg saturated TTAC was larger than that of 2.38 mol/kg saturated TTAB,suggesting that the TTAC"water-in-salt"electrolyte was more stable than TTAB.The CV tests revealed that the oxidation and reduction peaks were asymmetric,indicating the reaction was irreversible.The pure tetradecyl salt surfactant cannot offer advantages to the electrode reaction as an electrolyte,but they have potential as a medium.
