Abstract

The seasonal variation in water quality poses significant challenges to the control of the permanganate index(CODMn)and disinfection by-products(DBPs)in drinking water treatment plants.This study,taking a typical water treatment plant in the Huaihe River Basin as an example,explores the efficacy of pre-oxidation and optimized coagulation processes in removing algal organic matter and natural organic matter during the high algae period in summer and the low temperature and low turbidity period in winter,respectively.It aims to identify the optimal process parameters for controlling DBPs.During the high algae period in raw water,the use of potassium permanganate and ferrous salts as pre-oxidants and reducing agents(terminators)at a molar ratio of 1:3 can increase the CODMn removal rate to 50%~60%,while ensuring that the trihalomethanes(THMs)levels in the treated water meet standards.In the low temperature period of winter,by advancing the dosing point of the coagulant to the distribution well and extending the flocculation reaction time by 10 min,the water treatment efficiency can be significantly improved.Based on the optimization results,a conventional operation process optimization scheme for the X water plant to cope with different water quality conditions was formulated,which includes extending flocculation time in winter and moderately strengthening the pre-oxidation process with potassium permanganate in summer.Production experiment results show that after adopting the optimized scheme,the CODMn removal rate increased by 5.23%,and the average value of THMs decreased to 0.84,a reduction of 30.61%.The above optimization scheme can effectively cope with water quality fluctuations,achieve synchronous control of CODMn and DBPs,ensure stable and standard-compliant water quality,and has significant application and promotion value.
