Feeding and growth of Perccottus glenii during the overwintering period

Abstract
This study focuses on the feeding and growth of fish in high-altitude cold regions during the overwintering period,aiming to provide a scientific basis for the management of fish farming in high-altitude cold regions.During the overwintering periods from Oct.2013 to Mar.2014 and from Nov.2021 to Mar.2022,this study determined the feeding and growth characteristics of Perccottus glenii in the Songhua River wetlands,Harbin,China before and after the overwintering period.Perccottus glenii maintained feeding during the overwintering period,but the feeding intensity fluctuated markedly.The stomach fullness index of stomach fullness at different sampling times within the same overwintering period exhibited significant differences(P<0.05),and was generally below 1.00%.The pri-mary diet consisted of Chironomid larvae and Ephemeroptera larvae,which are aquatic insects.The length-weight model revealed that the condition factor a and the allometric growth index b at different sampling times within the same overwintering period were significantly different(P<0.05),and were predominantly characterized by negative allometric growth(b<3).The condition factor(K)stomach fullness index at different sampling times within the same overwintering period also showed significant differences(P<0.05).This study reveals the feeding and growth characteristics of Perccottus glenii during the overwintering period,indicating that this species continues to feed but with low and fluctuating intensity,has a relatively limited diet,and experiences slow growth.These findings pro-vide a theoretical basis for the management of fish farming in high-altitude cold regions during the overwintering pe-riod and help to optimize farming strategies and improve farming benefits.关键词
