"通阳不在温,而在利小便"内涵及其在四逆散证中的运用
The Connotation of"Unblocking Yang by Promoting Urination Rather Than by Warming"and its Application in Frigid Extremities Powder

Abstract
In the thought of"unblocking yang by promoting urination rather than by warming",the expression"unblocking yang not rel-ying on warming"should be extended to"unblocking yang not relying entirely on warming."Practitioners need to differentiate the clin-ical condition and discern when warming is appropriate and when it is not.If cold causes syncope,warming is the primary treatment principle.For cases where warming is not appropriate,the underlying syndrome and mechanism should be further investigated to guide treatment accordingly.The connotation of"promoting urination"can be broadened to"regulating body fluids."Given the complexity and variability of diseases caused by fluid retention,treatment can be considered from the perspective of water metabolism.The patho-genesis of Frigid Extremities Powder syndrome involves dysfunction of the triple energizer in managing water passages,leading to ob-structed waterways and internal retention of fluids,resulting in water accumulation.In the formula,Shaoyao(Radix Paeoniae Alba)and Gancao(Radix Glycyrrhizae)can nourish yin and induce diuresis;Chaihu(Radix Bupleuri)unblocks the waterways and regulates the triple energizer;and Zhishi(Fructus Aurantii Immaturus),with its effect of"breaking qi,"assists Chaihu in unblocking waterways and regulating the triple burner,while also aiding Shaoyao in promoting bladder function and expelling retained water.When the triple ener-gizer is unobstructed,the pivot mechanism functions normally,the waterways are free-flowing,and qi movement is regular,yin and yang qi can reconnect smoothly from start to end,yang qi will flow freely,and frigid extremities can be resolved.关键词
