The Origin and Academic Thought of Heluo Family Li School of Spleen and Stomach Medicine

Abstract
The Heluo Family Li School of Spleen and Stomach Medicine has been passed down through generations,forming a unique and systematic academic ideology for the diagnosis and treatment of internal injury miscellaneous diseases and external febrile diseases.It proposes that"the spleen is often deficient,the liver is often stagnant,and the stomach is often obstructed,"and accordingly,"the spleen should be invigorated,the liver should be soothed,and the stomach should be harmonized."Its academic viewpoints are as fol-lows:The spleen is fundamentally deficient in nature,with no excess syndrome.Spleen deficiency manifests as qi deficiency or even yang deficiency,but not yin deficiency,while the stomach can exhibit yin deficiency.The stomach often presents with excess syndromes,though yin deficiency may also occur.Treating the spleen must involve treating the stomach,and vice versa-spleen and stomach disorders cannot be addressed by focusing on a single organ alone.Treating the spleen and stomach must involve regulating the liver.For stomach yin deficiency,medications should be light,agile,sweet,and cool.Treatment for spleen-stomach diseases should combine dispersion and tonification.The spleen should normally function through fortification and transportation,while the stomach values unobstructed move-ment,so treatment should follow the principles of promoting and tonifying,as well as unblocking and tonifying.The fundamental patholo-gy of cold-damaged disorders is damage to yang and impairment of healthy qi,so treatment should emphasize the spleen and stomach and protect stomach qi.The basic mechanism of warm diseases is damage to yin and impairment of healthy qi.Treating heart diseases should focus on strengthening heart yang.For blood stasis syndromes,treatment should address the root cause while using blood-activating and stasis-eliminating methods to alleviate symptoms.Diseases are not static,and treatments should not be fixed,so formulating must be based on syndrome differentiation.The core pathogenesis of spleen-stomach diseases is spleen deficiency,yet treatment should not solely focus on the spleen and stomach.Instead,it should be based on the pathological characteristics of spleen deficiency,liver stagnation,and stomach obstruction,with careful assessment and tailored treatment according to the exact syndrome.关键词
