Longitudinal effects of bullying victimization on internalizing and externalizingproblems in adolescents:The mediating role of body image

Abstract
Objective:To conduct a longitudinal follow-up study to examine the impact of bullying victimization on adolescents'internalizing and externalizing problems,as well as the longitudinal mediating role of body image in this process,and to establish a longitudinal mediational model.Methods:A total of 746 junior high school students in He-bei Province were surveyed through a longitudinal questionnaire survey using the Delaware Bullying Victimization Scale(DBVS-S),the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire(SDQ),and the Chinese version of the Body Image State Scale.Results:There was a significant positive correlation between bullying victimization at T1 and internalizing and externalizing problems at T2(r=0.415,0.280;P＜0.01),and a significant negative correlation between bullying victimization at T1 and body image at T2(r=-0.265,P＜0.01).Both internalizing and externalizing problems had a significant negative correlation with body image(r=-0.225,-0.225;P＜0.01).Body image at T2 played a mediating role between bullying victimization at T1 and internalizing problems and externalizing problem behaviors at T2,and the mediating effects accounted for 6.67％and 13.64％of the total effects respectively.Conclusion:There is a cross-time relationship between bullying victimization and internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors.Bullying vic-timization can predict the occurrence of both internalizing and externalizing problems in adolescents simultaneously,and there is a co—occurrence phenomenon between internalizing and externalizing problems.At the same time,bull-ying victimization can also indirectly lead to internalizing and externalizing problems by generating negative body im-age.关键词
