Abstract

To explore the effects of laser-induced modification parameters on the surface color and temperature field of bamboo laminated timber,a mathematical model was developed to correlate the surface color differences with laser-induced modification parameters.The input parameters included laser scanning speed,scanning path distance,and laser power.The color change was evaluated using the CIELab color system,and the relationship between laser parameters and color change was analyzed using the response surface methodology(Box-Behnken model).Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)and UV-Vis were utilized to analyze the changes in chemical groups of bamboo laminated timber before and after modification.Finally,based on COMSOL software,a temperature field model of the laser-induced process was established to simulate dynamic changes in the temperature field of the laser-induced modification surface.The research findings revealed that the total color difference of the bamboo laminated timber surface increased with the increase of laser power but decreased as the laser scanning speed and scanning path distance increased.Both laser scanning speed and laser power had a significant impact on the color change of the test pieces'surface.The significance of the laser processing parameters was as follows:laser power>laser scanning speed>scanning distance.The correlation coefficient between the regression model predictions of the total color difference and the actual test values was 0.912 8,indicating that the model had a high degree of fit and can be used to predict the color change on the surface of laser-induced modified bamboo laminated timber.FT-IR and UV-Vis analysis results revealed that the changes in chemical groups of bamboo under laser-induced modification were one of the reasons for the color change of the wood surface.The degradation of hemicellulose generated many colored substances.The increase in the relative content of lignin,which contained many chromophore groups,and the increase in quinone structures were key factors in the change of the material's color indicators.Simulation analysis results showed that the maximum surface temperature of the test pieces tended to stabilize at 0.03 and 2.72 s for single-path and multi-path unidirectional laser induction,respectively.The laser had a minor impact on the change in the width range of the heat-affected zone in the test pieces,and the surface temperature of the test pieces gradually stabilized,enabling consistent and stable induced color changes on the surface.These research findings offer theoretical support for the manufacturing of bamboo products with controllable and diverse color variations.
