Abstract

To investigate the impact of different types of clay minerals in coal on the bio-methane metabolism process,anaerobic digestion experiments were conducted on coal with varying proportions of montmorillonite and illite after demineralization.The effects of different clay minerals on coal anaerobic digestion were analyzed from the perspectives of hydrolysis,acidogenesis,methano-genesis,and microbial characteristics,using methane production kinetics,X-ray diffraction(XRD),gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS),three-dimensional fluorescence,and metage-nomic testing.The results indicate that anaerobic digestion systems supplemented with clay minerals exhibit higher biogas methane potential.Specifically,the addition of 3%montmorillonite and 1%illite increases the maximum biomethane yields by 84.7%and 72.9%,respectively.The addition of clay minerals increases the diversity of organic compounds in the liquid phase products and facilitated the degradation of soluble organic matter.Significant changes are observed in the microbial commu-nity structure,particularly in the abundance and diversity of Pseudomonadota and Methanothrix,which are beneficial for organic matter degradation and biogenic methane production.The abundance of genes associated with acidogenic metabolic pathways(such as glk,ALDO,asdA,buk and adhE)increases by 8%to 36%,and multiple methane metabolic pathways are also enhanced.These changes in liquid phase products,microbial community composition,and metabolic pathways influ-ence methane production through alterations in key genes and enzymes,thereby promoting the anaero-bic digestion of coal.These findings provide a theoretical reference for understanding the formation process of coalbed biogenic gas and improving biomethane production.
