Abstract

At present,the lack of dissolved inorganic phosphorus has become a prominent problem in some sea areas,and has become one of the main limiting factors for phytoplankton growth and repro-duction.Dinoflagellates and other phytoplankton have evolved the survival strategy of dissolved organic phosphorus to maintain life activities,but the selective and utilization mechanism of DOP is still un-clear.Therefore,in order to further explore the utilization of DOP by dinoflagellates,this study took Alexandrium pacificum as the research object,explored its utilization capacity of 59 different phosphor-us sources.The physiological responses to different concentrations of organophosphates(sodium β-glyc-erophosphate,SG-P)and inorganic phosphorus(NaH2PO4)were systematically analyzed.The results showed that there were 48 kinds of phosphorus sources available,among which C—O—P bond and sin-gle ester phosphorus source were preferred,but C—P bond phosphorus source was difficult to use.There was a positive correlation between the maximum algae density and P concentration,and the growth of algae was inhibited obviously under P deficiency.Compared with NaH2PO4,this species has a better affinity for SG-P.Alkaline phosphatase activity(APA)has a negative correlation with the phos-phorus concentration in the external environment,that is,alkaline phosphatase is highly expressed when phosphorus is limited.There was no significant difference between intracellular APA and extracel-lular APA in the phosphorus-rich condition.The results of algal toxin measurements showed that the al-gal strain was dominated by low-toxicity C1 and C2,and the total content of unicellular toxins did not differ significantly between the two phosphorus sources and different phosphorus concentrations,but the content of unicellular toxins increased significantly under phosphorus limitation,and the production of highly Saxitoxin would be more favored in the NaH2PO4 condition.It can be seen that the physiologi-cal response of Alexandrium pacificum to different phosphorus source environments enables it to effec-tively utilize organic phosphorus for growth and reproduction in environments lacking inorganic phos-phorus sources,and this evolutionary strategy makes it more competitive.The results of the study may provide important theoretical references for in-depth exploration of the mechanism of harmful algal bloom outbreaks in certain phosphorus-deprived waters.
