Abstract

To optimize machine-adaptable cultivation models,this study investigated the effects of different cultivation mod-els on yield traits and storage root configuration(SRC)of South China 12 cassava.Six treatments were established:flat mon-oculture(T1),flat intercropping with peanut(T2),flat intercropping with maize(T3),ridged monoculture(T4),ridged inter-cropping with peanut(T5),and ridged intercropping with maize(T6).In the wide-narrow row arrangement,two intercropping rows were planted in 120 cm wide rows,and no intercropping was done in 60 cm narrow rows.Agronomic traits,yield,and SRC of cassava and intercrops were investigated.Results showed that no significant differences in fresh storage root yield(FSRY)and crude starch yield(CSY)among different cultivation models,with similar FSRY and CSY values between T1 and T4 monocultures.Compared with monoculture,flat intercropping reduced FSRY by 3.7%-10.5%and CSY by 8.5%-10.5%,whereas ridged intercropping reduced FSRY by 17.7%-20.7%and CSY by 14.7%-19.3%.Analysis of SRC showed that across all cultivation models,the fresh storage root weight(FSRW)distribution was≥99.5%within≤30.0 cm inside narrow rows(mid-ridge),≥99.1%within≤30.0 cm outside narrow rows(ridge side),and≥99.8%within≤25.0 cm soil depth.For the 60 cm double narrow row cassava,the FSRW distribution was≥99.0%within the 120 cm harvesting width and 25.0 cm soil depth,meeting the minimum operational requirements of current cassava harvesters(130 cm harvesting width and 30 cm depth for two narrow rows).A comprehensive evaluation suggested that South China 12 cassava is suitable for mechanized cultiva-tion,flat intercropping is recommended,but ridged intercropping is not.
