Abstract

Coastal engineering construction is gradually moving towards the deep sea,facing more complex marine hydrodynamic conditions.Long-period waves,with their high energy and strong penetration capacity,have attracted widespread attention for their impact on coastal engineering construction.Starting from the definition of long-period waves in coastal engineering,the concepts related to long-period waves from various literature sources were summarized.The global distribution and characteristics of long-period waves were briefly analyzed.Many coastal areas along the Maritime Silk Road are significantly affected by long-period waves.Focusing on the impact of long-period waves on coastal engineering construction,previous studies concerning their effects on wave attenuation by permeable breakwaters,overtopping of breakwaters,structural stress,stability of armor blocks,and ship mooring safety were systematically summarized,based on engineering case studies.Limitations of existing design specifications and methods in dealing with long-period wave issues were analyzed,and directions for further research were proposed.
