Analysis of spatiotemporal variations and driving factors of water conservation in Huangfuchuan River Basin from 1970 to 2020

Abstract
[Objective]Water conservation capacity serves as the most important characterization indicator in the regulation services of Gross Ecosystem Product(GEP)accounting.A scientific analysis of the variation patterns and influencing factors of water conservation can provide a basis for comprehensive ecosystem management and sustainable water resource management in river basins.[Methods]The SWAT model and an improved water balance equation were used to calculate the water conservation capacity in the Huangfuchuan River Basin over the past 50 years.The spatiotemporal variation of water conservation from 1970 to 2020 was analyzed,and the major influencing factors of water conservation capacity and its spatiotemporal variation were examined using the geodetector method.[Results](1)From 1970 to 2020,the water conservation capacity in the Huangfuchuan River Basin showed an overall increasing trend,with an annual average water conservation capacity of 174.34 mm,a water conservation index of 0.45,and an annual average growth rate of 0.17%.(2)The spatial distribution of water conservation in the Huangfuchuan River Basin exhibited a pattern of lower values in the north and higher values in the south,as well as lower values in the west and higher values in the east.Forests demonstrated the strongest water conservation capacity,making a significant contribution to the total water conservation of the Huangfuchuan River Basin.The spatial distribution of water conservation capacity showed a high consistency with precipitation.(3)The factors influencing water conservation capacity,ranked from the most to the least influential,were precipitation,temperature,elevation,potential evapotranspiration,soil type,land use type,and slope gradient.Factor interactions,especially between precipitation,temperature,and soil type,were more prominent.The climatic effect dominated the spatiotemporal pattern of water conservation in the Huangfuchuan River Basin.[Conclusion]The water conservation capacity in the Huangfuchuan River Basin showed an annual growth rate of 0.17%from 1970 to 2020,exhibiting a spatial pattern of lower values in the north and higher values in the south,as well as lower values in the west and higher values in the east.Forest demonstrated superior water conservation contributions,while climatic factors,particularly precipitation-temperature-soil interactions,dominated the spatiotemporal dynamics of water conservation.关键词
