Abstract

When a multi-pixel photon counter(MPPC)is used to detect weak signals in underwater long-distance optical wireless communication(OWC),there are serious pulse accumulation effect and Poisson noise due to its operation in Geiger mode,resulting in difficult counting and reduced measurement accuracy.To solve this problem,the mathematical modeling of discrete photon signals received by MPPC is conducted,a deconvolution union generalized Anscombe transform(DUGAT)detection algorithm is proposed.The deconvolution filtering technology is used to process the weak signal to reduce the stacking effect and converge the pulse width.The generalized Anscombe transform(GAT)is used to convert the noise signal of the Poisson+Gaussian(P+G)distribution into Gaussian variable,which is equivalent to an additive Gaussian noise signal.The detection algorithm based on hard decision is used to count the signal.By setting up the experiment environment,the collected experimental data is processed by means of the proposed algorithm.The results show that when the water quality attenuation coefficient is 0.114 m-1 and the signal error rate is 3.8×10-3,the average number of photons per pulse of the received signal is approximately 11,and compared with traditional AR and ML detection algorithms,the sensitivity of the proposed algorithm can be improved by about 8.66 dB and 9.55 dB,respectively.When the water quality attenuation coefficient is 0.142 m-1,the average number of photons per pulse of the received signal is approximately 15,and compared with traditional AR and ML detection algorithms,the sensitivity of the proposed algorithm can be improved by about 7.83 dB and 9.26 dB,respectively.It demonstrates that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the communication distance of the underwater wireless optical communication(UOWC)system.
