Probability neglect in medical decision making:The underlying mechanisms and interventions

Abstract
With the aging population,the complexity and risks involved in medical decision making have significantly increased,especially for older adults and patients with chronic diseases.Probability neglect is a common phenomenon in medical decisions,characterized by excessive attention to the severity of potential side effects while neglecting their actual probability,leading to irrational choices.This study focuses on probability neglect in medical decision making,examining the emotional mechanisms underlying this phenomenon.By employing eye-tracking technology,the Mouselab program,multimodal physiological indicators,emotion regulation strategies,and transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS),this research systematically investigates the cognitive processes involved in probability neglect and analyzes how emotional responses influence medical decision making among older adults and chronic disease patients.In addition,the study explores nudge interventions based on big data analytics and self-perception theory to guide patients toward improved emotional regulation,thereby reducing probability neglect and helping individuals make more rational and balanced medical decisions.Through empirical research,this study addresses the existing gap regarding the relationship between emotions and probability neglect,providing effective nudge interventions to optimize medical decision making and improve decision quality for older adults and patients with chronic diseases.关键词
