Abstract
Objective To investigate and analyze the effects of olanzapine treatment on glucose and lipid metabolism,serum inflammatory cytokine levels,and corrected QT(QTc)interval in patients with schizophrenia.Methods A total of 80 patients with schizophrenia treated at Nanle County Psychiatric Hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were enrolled.All patients received oral olanzapine tablets with an initial dose of 5-10 mg once daily.The dose was adjusted according to symptom changes within two weeks,gradually increased to 5-20 mg once daily,administered orally before or after meals.Fasting blood glucose(FBG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS)scores,serum homocysteine(Hey),serum inflammatory cytokines[interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-17(IL-17),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)],and QTc interval were measured and compared before treatment and after 2 months of treatment.Results After treatment,FBG,TC,TG,and LDL-C levels were significantly higher than before treatment(P<0.05),while HDL-C levels were significantly lower(P<0.05).PANSS positive and negative subscale scores decreased significantly compared with pre-treatment values(P<0.05).Serum Hcy levels after treatment were significantly lower than before treatment(P<0.05).Serum IL-6,IL-17,and IL-1β levels decreased significantly compared with pre-treatment levels(P<0.05),while no significant difference was observed in TGF-β1 levels(P>0.05).The mean QTc interval was(355.72±20.63)ms before treatment and(360.14±18.62)ms after treatment.Although QTc interval was prolonged after treatment,the difference was not statistically significant(t=1.565,P=0.122).Conclusion The atypical antipsychotic olanzapine can induce abnormalities in glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with schizophrenia.However,its therapeutic efficacy is significant,with marked reductions in serum Hcy and inflammatory cytokine levels,and no significant prolongation of the QTc interval.Therefore,with close monitoring of lipid levels and electrocardiogram findings,olanzapine remains a favorable treatment option.关键词
