Hysteretic Response of Reference Evapotranspiration to Vapor Pressure Deficit and Temperature in Inner Mongolia

Abstract
As a fundamental component of regional water resource planning and management,reference evapotranspiration(ET0)requires a thorough investigation into the time-lag effects and synergistic interactions of different environmental variables for a comprehensive understanding.However,the response time of ET0 to vapor pressure deficit(VPD)and temperature and their influencing factors remains unclear.In this study,time-lag effects and their interactions for VPD,temperature(including maximum,minimum,and mean tempera-tures),Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)on ET0 were analyzed using data from 107 meteoro-logical sites across Inner Mongolia during 2000-2020.The results indicated:ET0,VPD,temperature,and NDVI exhibited increasing trends over the study period.Notably,the time lag of ET0 in response to VPD was longer compared to air temperature,particularly for minimum temperatures in high-altitude regions.ET0 exhibited a stronger potential sensitivity to VPD compared to mean temperature,whereas the response to extreme low tem-peratures exceeded that to maximum temperature and VPD.an increase in NDVI was found to shorten the lag time of ET0 in response to air temperature,whereas it prolonged the lag time of ET0 in response to vapor pres-sure deficit.关键词
