Economic feasibility of integrating artificial reefs with offshore wind farm

Abstract
Previous studies have shown that placing artificial reefs around offshore wind turbine foundations can effectively reduce the risk of scouring.Therefore,integrating artificial reef deployment within offshore wind farms is a promising approach to combining offshore wind energy development with marine ranching.However,its economic feasibility requires further investigation.This study first analyzes the possibility of integrated development of offshore wind farms and artificial reef fields from the perspectives of site selection and investment scale.Two deployment models for artificial reefs within wind farms are proposed:a uniform full-area deployment model(reef field)and a pile-surrounding layout model(anti-scouring).Subsequently,from the perspective of wind farm owners,a net present value-based economic analysis method for integrated development is established,along with cost and benefit calculation methods for deploying artificial reefs within wind farms.Finally,case studies are conducted for typical offshore wind farms in three regions of China.The results show that using artificial reefs as anti-scouring measures for wind turbine foundations has a moderate investment scale,and the fisheries revenue can offset the investment cost,demonstrating good economic feasibility.关键词
