Demography of Disasters:Subject Orientation and Research Progress
摘要
Abstract
Disasters stem from nature as well as from society and,as non-routine events,they disrupt func-tions of societies and communities.With rapid population growth,climatic change,and recurrent ethnic con-flicts,disasters,both natural and anthropogenic,are exacting ramifications on societies and sub-populations.As a sub-discipline of both demography and disaster studies,demography of disasters aims to investigate impact of di-sasters on populations,response of population policies to disasters,complex relationship between disasters and populations using demographic approaches and through population-environment nexus perspective.It informs policies and strategies concerning population and sustainable development in regional and local context.In addi-tion to a brief discussion of its disciplinary orientation,this article presents a thorough review of progress in de-mographic studies of disasters in China and abroad,covering various themes such as impact of disasters on popu-lation processes(death,fertility,and migration),population size,population structure,and response of population policies to impact of disasters.It addresses challenges facing the studies of demography of disasters and some suggestions are proposed.关键词
