Abstract

Monitoring indices are the criteria for accurately estimating disasters.Selecting two typical heat stress indices currently used in the Sichuan Basin-the cumulative heat stress index and the harmful accumulated temperature index,the spatial distribution characteristics of different levels of high-temperature stress during two critical growth stages of rice(heading-flowering and grain-filling)from 1961 to 2020 are comparatively ana-lyzed.The analysis is further validated using observed yield data from Chongqing during the extreme heat year of 2022.The results indicate that both the cumulative heat stress index and the harmful accumulated temperature index are capable of representing the occurrence,development,and evolution of high-temperature stress in rice across the study region.Each index has its own advantages in monitoring high-temperature stress in rice;howev-er,both tend to overestimate the severity of heat stress to varying degrees,with the harmful accumulated tempera-ture index exhibiting a greater tendency to overestimate.
