An optimized scheme for OLTCs of distribution transformers using flywheel motors

Abstract
In the switching process of on-load tap changers(OLTCs)for distribution transformers,electric arcs are likely to occur at the contacts,which have an adverse impact on the service life and normal operation of the equip-ment.Therefore,based on an analysis of the merits and demerits of existing OLTCs and the principle of arc genera-tion,this paper presents a design concept of creating a"zero voltage"condition prior to the closure of the switching device.A controlled-source device is then designed,integrating a flywheel motor equipped with a flywheel rotor.Le-veraging its rapid response characteristics,the output of the controlled source is modulated in accordance with the voltage changes across the OLTC,thereby reducing the voltage across the switching device to zero.This enables the OLTC to close under the"zero voltage"condition,effectively weakening the electric arcs generated during the switching process.A simulation model of the on-load tap-changing device incorporating the controlled source is es-tablished in PSCAD software.The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in controlling the voltage across the switching device and suppressing the generation of electric arcs during the switching process.关键词
