Abstract

[Objective]Utilizing the narrow crown characteristics of Cunninghamia lanceolata var.Luotian,this study explored a mixed cropping model that complements Camellia oleifera,the goal is to improve the multi-objective management and effective exploitation of C.oleifera plantations.[Method]Studying the growth characteristics,spatial structure and competitive relationships of different stands of C.oleifera+C.lanceolata var.Luotian,C.oleifera+Cunninghamia lanceolata mixing patterns and C.oleifera pure stand were compared.[Result]1)The average basal diameter and average crown breadth of C.oleifera exhibited significant differences among three planting patterns(P<0.05).Under the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata var.Luotian mixed planting pattern,the average tree height,average basal diameter and average crown breadth of C.oleifera increased by 18.89%,5.53%,and 6.13%respectively compared to the C.oleifera pure stand,and by 12.04%,18.42%,and 20.98%respectively compared to the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata mixed planting pattern.This indicates that the C.lanceolata var.Luotian promotes the growth of C.oleifera;2)The canopy density,crowding degree,overlapping degree,and canopy overlap area of the three different planting patterns were 0.36-0.63,1.07-1.51,0-6.78,and 0-0.52 m2 respectively.Although the overall stand density is relatively sparse,the pure C.oleifera forest demonstrates a more unconstrained growth pattern in comparison.The two composite mixed planting patterns significantly increased the spatial density of the forest stand,but the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata mixed planting pattern exhibited a more compact spatial structure,with a clear trend of increased competition among saplings;3)The competition stress index of C.oleifera in the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata mixed planting pattern was significantly higher than that in the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata var.Luotian mixed planting pattern(29.33%higher).The competition stress index of C.oleifera in both planting patterns was lower by 27.25%compared to C.lanceolata var.Luotian and higher by 9.59%compared to C.lanceolata.In the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata var.Luotian mixed planting pattern,66.67%of the C.oleifera competition stress index fell within the range of 100-125,while in the C.oleifera+C.lanceolata mixed planting pattern,80%of the C.lanceolata competition stress index fell within the range of 150-200.This suggests that C.lanceolata var.Luotian has a lesser impact on C.oleifera,while C.lanceolata exerts a greater competitive stress on it.[Conclusion]The mixed planting pattern of C.oleifera and C.lanceolata var.Luotian has an ideal species structure,which can effectively increase the canopy closure of the forest land.However,it does not form a high degree of overlap and strong competition relationships,which is beneficial for the growth of the stand and the formation of a stable composite spatial structure.
