Abstract

In order to to clarify the tolerance of Chilo suppressalis to flooding,using the overwintering population of Chilo suppressalis to evalu-ate the flooding tolerance of overwintering larvae and pupae in the laboratory,as well as the changes in respiratory-related indicators such as he-moglobin and hemocyanin,and the effects of flooding on killing overwintering larvae and pupae through field trials.The results showed that about 80%of the overwintering Chilo suppressalis larvae could be completely submerged after being flooded;after 12 d of flooding,the mortality was more than 80%,and the median lethal time(LT50)was 8.40 d;the mortality of overwintering pupae reached 92.22%after 3 d flooding,which indicated that the tolerance of overwintering larvae to flooding was much higher than that of pupae.The hemoglobin and hemocyanin content of overwintering pupae were higher than those of overwintering larvae,but after being submerged,the hemoglobin and hemocyanin content of over-wintering pupae decreased significantly compared with overwintering larvae.This may be one of the reasons why overwintering pupae have sig-nificantly lower tolerance to flooding than overwintering larvae.The results of field trials showed that continuous irrigation during the pupal stage achieved a 100%control efficiency against overwintering pupae.The results provides a theoretical reference for the control of Chilo suppressalis in the field by using flooding for pupae mortality induction.
