Abstract

Objectives To evaluate the application of a modular augmented reality(AR)system based on Apple Vision Pro(AVP)in robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer.Methods Fifty-four patients with rectal malig-nancies admitted to China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University from April 2024 to April 2025 were selected as sub-jects.Based on the type of robot used,they were divided into the Da Vinci group(n=19)and the Kangduo group(n=35).Postoperative complications,operation time,and trainee evaluations were compared between the two groups us-ing the AVP-based modular AR system.Results No complications such as incision infection,anastomotic leakage,or intes-tinal obstruction occurred during postoperative hospitalization in either group.All patients recovered well and were dis-charged successfully.The Da Vinci robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection for rectal cancer showed significantly shorter operation times for each step and total operation time compared to the Kangduo robot(P<0.05).Fifty trainees highly approved of the modular processing of the procedure,and satisfaction with the AVP-based modular AR system reached 100%.Conclusion The AVP-based modular AR system demonstrates excellent safety and feasibility in robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer.It offers significant advantages in surgical education,helping sur-geons refine techniques and trainees shorten the learning curve.This system provides an improved solution for rectal cancer treatment and holds potential for advancing minimally invasive surgery.
