Abstract

This paper focuses on Jiang Nanxiang's engineering education ideology,aiming to systematically comb its core connotations.By analyzing the historical conditions and practical foundations during the formation of Jiang Nanxiang's engineering education ideology,and comparing them with the current situation and the requirements for cultivating outstanding engineering talents in the new era,this study reveals the ideology's adaptability and limitations in the contemporary context.It also explores its implications for the current integration of industry and education in cultivating outstanding engineers,which is of great significance for accelerating the construction of a Chinese-characteristic,world-class cultivation system for outstanding engineers. This research employs a historical document analysis method.Based on the historical archives of Tsinghua University(1952-1966),it combs through archival materials,speeches,and educational policy documents from Jiang Nanxiang's tenure at Tsinghua University.Through a comparative study of different eras,it contrasts the educational background during the initial stage of industrialization in the 1950s and 1960s with the current requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the strategy of self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology.Additionally,it introduces data evidence,such as the comparison of the proportion of highly skilled talents between China and the United States and the shortage of manufacturing talents,to enhance the persuasiveness of the argument. The study has successfully extracted the core of Jiang Nanxiang's engineering education ideology.His ideology deeply integrates the needs of the times with educational laws,anchoring national strategies in terms of responsibilities and missions,focusing on cultivation quality in core objectives,innovating collaborative mechanisms in cultivation models,and embedding red genes in its fundamental essence.The research has also revealed the differences between Jiang Nanxiang's historical context and the current era.The historical model of engineering talent cultivation during Jiang Nanxiang's time was characterized by a passive defense strategy,adapting to the planned economy and technological blockades,while current demands have shifted towards an active leadership model to address industrial chain modernization and cross-border innovation.Furthermore,the study has summarized the contemporary implications of Jiang Nanxiang's engineering education ideology,emphasizing the pursuit of serving the country as the highest goal,continuously improving the quality of engineering talent cultivation,promoting the integrated development of education,science and technology,and talent,and cultivating outstanding engineers with firm political stances and a love for the Party and the country. Against the backdrop of practical challenges such as"disconnection from practice"and"inefficient school-enterprise collaboration"in the cultivation of outstanding engineering talents,Jiang Nanxiang's engineering education ideology,with its national-demand-driven approach,the"integration of teaching,scientific research,and production"model,and the value orientation of"being both red and expert"provides valuable insights for solving these problems.
