Abstract

Flake metal particles are a common potential defect within gas-insulated switchgear(GIS),where their mo-tion and discharge behavior under electric fields may lead to insulation failure,thereby posing a significant threat to equipment reliability.The current studies mainly focus on particle dynamics under electric fields alone,while the in-fluence of steady-state mechanical vibrations remains inadequately explored.In this paper a scaled GIS experimental platform capable of simultaneously applying high voltage and mechanical vibration is set up to investigate the motion patterns and discharge characteristics of flake metal particles under electro-mechanical coupling effects.Experimen-tal results indicate that the jumping and resting characteristics of the particles are significantly influenced by their mass and shape.Particles approaching a square geometry exhibit higher jumping electric field thresholds(0.80~1.1 kV/mm),whereas those with linear shapes demonstrate lower thresholds(0.55~0.70 kV/mm),with the effect of vi-bration on the jumping threshold being negligible.The particles,once jumping,exhibit three typical motion patterns and the motion is more intense with the increase of vibration amplitude.Discharge analysis reveals that as particle mass increases,its maximum apparent discharge magnitude has evolved from a linear to an exponential relationship.Moreover,coexistance of multiple flake particles can induce chain breakdown,resulting in a denser discharge pulse pattern.These findings reveal the impact of steady-state mechanical vibration on particle motion and discharge be-havior,providing an experimental basis for the assessment and mitigation of metal particle defects in GIS.
