Abstract

The dissection effect of joint fractures on rock slopes results in the formation of numerous dangerous rock masses.Influenced by rainfall,earthquakes,human engineering activities,etc.,joint fractures continue to develop and interconnect to form structural planes,making dangerous rock masses highly susceptible to dislodgement and subsequent geohazards such as rockfall.To investigate the formation mechanism and failure modes of rock slope collapse,as well as the catalytic role of structural planes in collapse development,the Liyutan collapse in Renhuai City was selected as the case study.Field investigations revealed that three dangerous rock masses were primarily distributed in the study area.Analysis of structural plane characteristics and influencing factors showed that these masses exhibited two distinct failure modes:sliding collapse and toppling failure.Finally,a combined qualitative and quantitative approach was used to conduct stability analysis of the dangerous rock masses.The results indicate that the three masses were marginally stable under natural conditions but became critically unstable under rainstorm scenarios.These findings provide a reliable basis for the prevention and control of similar collapse hazards.
